DALLAS/FT. WORTH, TEXAS-MAY 16, 2000 — With the first-ever World Cheerleading Championship trophy in arm, Dallas/Ft.Worth-based Club Cheer’s All-Star team arrived at the Dallas International Airport greeted by an exuberant crowd after an overseas flight from Germany. Club Cheer represented the United States at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) World Championship in Dusseldorf that brought 12 countries together at Warner Brothers Movie World on May 13 & 14. “It was an unbelievable honor to be asked by NCA to represent the United States at this event,” said Club Cheer Coach Brandi Noble with tears in her eyes. “This is definitely the beginning of something extraordinary, something very big!”
In an effort to usher in the internationally growing cheerleading trend and legitimize the sport on the world stage, Dallas-based NCA advanced its international momentum with the premier World Cheerleading Championship. The global invitation brought talents together from the United States, Germany, Chile, Great Britain, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden and Denmark.
“The exuberance of all the athletes from every country made this first-ever global event a very special championship, and we look forward to it growing with more countries next year,” said NCA Vice President of Marketing Andy McNeill.
Only 2/10ths of a point separated three nations going into finals with Santiago’s Chile Cheer coming in second and The Braunshweig Wildcats from Braunshweig, Germany taking 3rd.
For Club Cheer, winning is nothing new. But this World Title definitely tops their eight National Titles. “Bringing home the first World Title is a BIG deal to us,” said Noble. “But even more rewarding is to be able to be part of a new beginning and to share our talents with the other countries to help set the standard while accelerating their development.”
With a style and talent that truly represents the elite NCA influenced American cheerleader, McNeill said Club Cheer’s presence alone will be the catalyst to improving the quality of cheerleading around the world as NCA paves its way to being an Olympic sport.
